The client interview portion of the intake process can be intimidating for new clients. There are a lot of questions, and some clients may not feel comfortable disclosing information before a relationship has been established.
When competing an intake form, always:
- Maintain a neutral and nonjudgmental demeanor.
- Be prompt. The intake form should be completed within the first 2 weeks for enrollment, if not sooner.
- Observe the client and gauge his or her comfort level. Be flexible to adapt to his or her needs.
- Take breaks when needed and don’t push too hard to collect information the client may not be ready to give.
On the next few slides, you will be presented with four scenarios in which you will be asked to make the best decisions during interviews with clients.
